So Me is a Parisian graphic designer who served as the primary art director at Ed Banger Records for their first decade of the label.

This exhibition catalog is a collection of select album covers, showcasing multiple artists from the early roster.

The Exhibition

The content of the So-Me retrospective is to chronicle and reflect on the initial 10 years of Ed Banger Records and the visual language consistent throughout So-Me’s art direction with album art. So-Me’s cut and paste collage stylings mixed with his hand drawn lettering and scribble show a tactility that contrasts well against the machine nature of electronic music.

Target Audience

The parents who can’t go to the club anymore. The contemporaries of the artists. A lot of these artists were very young when the success was coming down, and they were at the forefront a massive global scene. As the artists have aged, and moved on to more things, the concept of bringing everyone back to that scene and that time, is the idea.

Limited Pressing

They would be limited, as media is. But additionally there would be a desire to remember the early internet blog days in physical form. MySpace is where a lot of this happened, so there is a bit of ephemerality to the comments, photos, messages, and digital artifacts that we today have the sense to try to hold onto. Those things are gone. This could serve as a tactile reminder of records, of nights out, and friends.

Remembering an Era

A feeling of nostalgia is the primary motivator with the retrospective. To look back fondly. That’s from those with the history. Those without, hopefully they learn of things they didn’t know of before, and can attach new, fresh memories to these tracks, EPs and visuals. Bring life into them today.
